About Michael Gilg

My film/video production and editing background stretches over a 30-year period. I am a communication problem solver. I create visual communication projects, telling stories and conveying ideas with film, video tape, SD Digital, HD Digital and now 4K digital formats. The tools change but my passion for story telling has not.

Whether it is a safety message in a meeting, explaining employee benefits on-line or telling the world of the trials, challenges and efforts of doctors, researchers and patients in a national broadcast commercial, my focus and passion to connect with the audience is the same. I bring this creative passion to all formats of communication today, on-line, social media, both internal and external, traditional communications mediums, broadcast TV and event productions.

I excel at small crew, single-camera location production. I do more with less. I make a small budget look big with pre-planning and tight project oversight. As owner of mg PRODUCTIONS, one day I will be working with just a sound tech and the next I am director/DP of a 15 person crew commercial production, or I am directing a live, large, multi-camera event with a crew of thirty-five. I produce these projects, establish budgets and oversee the execution of the projects. I am an expert on managing people and materials. I excel in organizing and moving people and equipment nationally and internationally. I have worked extensively in Europe and the Middle East.

An additional strength is working with and directing non-professional talent. I can work with and get the best performance from a Fortune 500 CEO or a line employee alike.

I started my career in news, the ABC affiliate in San Antonio. I understand what it takes to find and develop a story. I understand the collaborative process and enjoy working directly with both in-house and external clients. I can collaborate in the process and create a plan, but I can also execute that plan and do the work.

I work with all camera platforms, (Sony, Cannon, Red, Arri). I edit with Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro and AVID. I can create graphics with Photoshop, After Effects and Motion. I am a still photographer. I work with LightRoom. I am familiar with all of the social media platforms. I own Cannon camera packages, location lighting gear, location audio packages, and three drone packages. (Demo and equipment list available)

The tools change and the presentation mediums change, but creativity, collaboration and focused story telling does not. My philosophy is to work hard and “Be Prepared”. This allows me to be ready for the occasional catastrophe that will eventually happen with any project, but at the same time I’m open to the happy accident of inspiration. The best testament to my work ethic and effectiveness is my clients. My clients continually comment on my creativity, extreme patience and dependability.
